SLS AMG

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG

Over the decades, German automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has produced some of the world's most recognizable cars and some of the most prestigious ones as well. The S550, for example, is one of the most popular four-door saloons in its class. Its hefty price tag makes it popular among successful businessmen and women, corporate CEO's, and wealthy car enthusiasts who wont settle for anything less than luxurious. The S-class is a vehicle that represents the pinnacle of German automobiles. Mercedes-Benz's two other recognizable classes, the C-class and E-class vehicles represent German engineering and automotive manufacturing fairly well.

Apart from its everyday line-up of vehicles, Mercedes-Benz's high performance line of cars, housed inside AMG, exhilarates the driving experience. Successor to the SLR McLaren, the SLS AMG certainly does the job when it comes to delivering performance and representing Mercedes-Benz. Underneath the bonnet, the standard SLS houses a massive 6.3L V-8 engine capable of producing 563 bhp at 6800 rpm. A drag race off the line going from 0-60mph takes just 3.6 seconds. The SLS engine has a 7-speed dual-clutch semi-automatic gear box with the option of using the mounted paddle shifts on the wheel. It produces 479 lb-ft. of torque at 4750 rpm.

The SLS AMG starts at an MSRP est. $201,500. It may sound expensive, but other cars the SLS' range include the Ferrari 458 Italia (est. $250,000-300,000), the Lamborghini Aventador (est. $300,000-400,000), and the Bentley Continental GT (est. $300,000). These competitors are fair game for the SLS when it comes to having a race or handling corners. Apart from the performance of this car, the design is questionable.

A very recognizable feature of the SLS is its gull wing doors. These doors open directly upwards and some drivers who aren't as tall might have some difficulty in terms of reaching the door to close it. In short, Lamborghini's doors are much more simpler in terms of function and styling. But don't get discouraged because of the odd looking doors. Pulling up in this AMG beast will definitely have heads turn and perhaps even some flashes might come your way from photos being taken from bystanders. The SLS AMG is a great car with performance at a flawless levels. It delivers Mercedes-Benz at its finest along with AMG for that matter. On the track, Mercedes-Benz has given an answer to its two other German rivals, BMW and Audi, with their high performance line-up of cars, M and RS/S, respectively.
