Futuristic. Sleek. Advanced. Extraordinary. These are some of the words to describe the all-new 2014 BMW i8. From a potential consumer's perspective, this car is not only grand in its styling and appearance, but also carries the badge of one the world's top motoring companies, BMW. With a name such as this, you know that it's going to be good.

The BMW i8 was officially unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany. BMW's "i" line of vehicles is the company's first ever range of hybrid/plug-in These vehicles include the BMW i3 and i8. The i8 features two types of engines. The first is a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, capable of producing 231 bhp and 236 lb-ft of torque. The second type of engine is an electric motor which produces 131 bhp and 184 lb-ft of torque. Combined, these two different types of engines produce 362 bhp and 420 lb-ft f torque. The electric motor in the i8 takes about 3.5 hours to fully charge the 98 kW engine. 0-60 mph for the i8 takes about 4.4 seconds, which is pretty fast for hybrid car standards. The i8 can travel up to 94 mpg.

It's not everyday you see a car such as the i8 and if you do, you'll be surprised at the price tag the i8 comes with. The BMW i8 starts at an estimated MSRP $135,700, making it the second most expensive production car for BMW. The most expensive BMW production car is the 760Li. (bmwusa.com). The BMW i8 will be available in the U.S. in spring of 2014. BMW UK has actually launched a website that will enable consumers to build their very own i8. They can mix and match different options for the car, choose exterior paints, and design the interior as well (Build your own i8).
